Foundation

The Pearls of Distinction Foundation, Inc. (a 501(c)3 organization) is the charitable arm of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Iota Tau Omega Chapter. It was established in 2015, in order to expand and leverage the Chapter’s resources to increase its impact in the local communities.

Contributions to the foundation are tax deductible according to the tax code.

The mission of The Pearls of Distinction Foundation, Inc. is to encourage academic excellence, support youth in need, contribute to the improvement of the health of the community in general, promote the advancement of leadership development, support initiatives for a cleaner environment, and support the economic empowerment of families. This organization, maintained by volunteers, assists youths in the West Chester, Chester County area, Pennsylvania, by implementing programs focused in the areas of leadership, academia, and health (physical, mental, and emotional). Understanding the need for such programming to prevent negative socioeconomic trends within young populations and families in need, the organization welcomes all community youth and families to freely participate and engage in all self-empowerment efforts as appropriate.

The organization, through its volunteers, conducts fund raising activities to support scholarship and community service events and programs. These events range in itinerary and focus, ranging from health education to family strengthening. Environmental ownership and global education are also items which the organization addresses, and through community partnerships, offer participants additional, educational means to foster personal development. The organization holds fundraising opportunities, including an annual fashion show, to support academic scholarships and community programs of service activities. These events are open to community sponsors and participants, and proceeds are applied to the organization’s community service efforts.
